The research is characterized as qualitative, exploratory in nature, based on a bibliographic review and the application of an online questionnaire with 16 dance teachers working in formal and informal teaching contexts. The results indicate that the mirror acts as an important technical facilitator, offering immediate visual feedback that helps in body alignment and movement accuracy, especially in the early stages of learning. However, the excessive use of this resource can generate visual dependence, compromising proprioception, body awareness and student autonomy. It was also observed that the mirror also impacts behavioural and emotional aspects, such as body self-awareness, social comparison and divided attention. The practice of the class without the use of the mirror proved to be effective for strengthening body memory, internal motor control and somatic sensitivity. It is concluded that the conscious alternation between classes with or without a mirror is a fundamental pedagogical strategy to promote a more integrated, sensitive and autonomous learning in dance.
