The research is justified by the impacts of UHIs on thermal comfort, energy consumption, and public health, particularly in hot and humid climates where urban materials with high thermal absorption intensify surface heating. The methodology consisted of an experimental comparison between rigid pavements (Portland cement concrete) and flexible pavements (asphalt concrete), with and without the application of high solar reflectance acrylic reflective paint, through surface temperature measurements and statistical data analysis. The results showed systematic temperature reductions on treated surfaces, with average decreases of 3.46 °C for rigid pavement and 4.87 °C for flexible pavement at 2:00 p.m., corresponding to relative reductions of 7.96% and 10.37%, respectively. At 5:00 p.m., even more significant reductions were observed, reaching 4.76 °C for rigid pavement and 5.56 °C for flexible pavement, equivalent to 11.73% and 12.47% reductions. Additionally, lower heat retention was verified in the late afternoon period, with additional reductions of up to 1.57 °C in rigid pavement and 1.99 °C in flexible pavement compared to untreated surfaces. These findings demonstrate that reflective coating reduces solar radiation absorption and limits heat accumulation and reemission, confirming its potential as a sustainable solution for urban planning and rehabilitation strategies aimed at mitigating surface heating and improving thermal comfort in cities.
