Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/114In contemporary society, the profession of archivist has succesfully kept up with the constant advances in information and communication technology, which, by introducing new elements into the labor market, directly influence the functions and activities of archives and archivists. It is the responsibility of the archivist to control, treat, access, safeguard and manage public and private archives. They are, therefore, professional providers of information, having become an essential administrative and legal element of an organization, responsible for the historical record of a nation and enabling the full exercise of citizenship. In order to identify the presence of the archivist in the capital of Pará, especially in the context of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), this paper aims to present the reasons for the high turnover of these professionals in that Institution. Currently, in Brazil, only 16 public universities offer an undergraduate course in archival science and, as of 2012, UFPA has become the latest university to offer it. In light of this, in many Brazilian states there is a shortage of professionals Archivists in the labor market, as is the case in Pará. Based on a methodology of bibliographical and documentary research, we present the theoretical foundation on the subject being researched, which addresses the history of the profession of archivist in both an international and national contexts, highlighting the inclusion and high turnover of such professionals at UFPA and emphasizing the importance of creating this course in the context of the Amazon region. For the field research, an open-answer questionnaire was submitted to all archivist professionals, currently or formerly employed at UFPA. Then, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data collected using the Collective Subject Discourse (DSC) methodology took place. The result of the research indicates that there is a high turnover of archivists in the UFPA, because, currently, the majority of active professionals originate from other states of Brazil and -due to difficulties in adaptation, the high cost of living in Belém, the substandard infrastructure and resources, and short age of professionals for the full development of archival work -as soon as better job opportunities come by, especially in their home towns, they quit their jobs at the University. The prospects are that in the coming years this high turnover of archivists at UFPA and the low headcount of archivists in the North of the country can change, as the students of the first undergraduate classes in Archivology of that University will have graduated and will be able to apply for the position of archivist in upcoming public tenders at UFPA and other institutions.Acesso AbertoArquivologia - Mercado de trabalhoArquivologia - Formação profissionalArquivistasArquivologiaCiência arquivoProfissional arquivistaUniversidade Federal do Pará (UFPA)CNPQ::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADAS::CIENCIA DA INFORMACAO::ARQUIVOLOGIATecendo um olhar sobre o profissional arquivista na Universidade Federal do ParáTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
