According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), it is the third malignant tumor and fourth cause of death in females in Brazil. Most cervical neoplasms are related to infection by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), with subtypes 16 and 18 standing out. Among the prevention measures adopted by Primary Care are health promotion, use of condoms, vaccination and cytopathological examination. This study has the general objective of characterizing the profile of Pap smears carried out in the municipality of Altamira, in the state of Pará, in the years 2015 to 2024 and the specific objectives: to analyze the number of cases of precursor lesions of CC, the collection interval, the result interval, the exam time, the age group, the quality of the samples and the number of cytology tests previously performed. Theoretical Framework: HPV is classified within a group of diseases, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), whose risk factors, especially unprotected sexual intercourse, increase the risk of acquiring the disease. It is known that CC's main carcinogenic agent is HPV, which can currently be identified by molecular testing, implemented by the Ministry of Health (MS). Women who are socially, economically and culturally vulnerable and who rarely use public resources are more prone to developing CC, which has higher incidence and mortality rates in the North and Northeast regions. The cytopathological examination of the cervix, or Pap smear, is a safe and efficient strategy for early detection of CC among women. It is a simple examination provided free of charge by the SUS and available in public health systems. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study that will be conducted by obtaining secondary data from the cytological examination entered into the Cancer Information System (SISCAN). Results: between the years 2015 and 2024, 58,667 cytologies were collected in the municipality of Altamira. Women under 25 and over 64 years old also underwent collection during this period, at a percentage of 19% and 4%, respectively, that is, ages not recommended by the Ministry of Health. Of the total number of tests carried out, only 3.27% showed changes, with low-grade injuries being more prevalent at all ages. The patients' age group showed a strong negative correlation (r=- 8286; p=0.0415) with the frequency of cytopathological changes according to Spearman's test, indicating that the younger the age group, the greater the occurrence of changes in the PCCU. Of the samples collected, around 67% had an interval between collection and delivery of the material for analysis of 0 to 10 days, 57% had results released by the laboratory between 0 and 10 days and 80% took up to 30 days from collection to release of the report. Furthermore, more than 80% of the women screened had previous cytology tests. And finally, 98% of the samples had satisfactory suitability. Conclusion: the results of this work are similar to those of many services in the country, despite the positive points regarding the timeliness and quality of the samples, coverage in the target population for CC screening has remained low since the pandemic in 2020. Thus, there is an urgent need for effective measures on the part of basic assistance that can remedy the current situation and, equally, reflect positively on the exponential reduction in the number of new cases and increasing deaths in the country.
