The aim is to engage students in a meaningful learning experience, in which they will be challenged to build a low-cost compass to survive on a mysterious island. The story begins with a group of students and their teacher on a sea excursion that results in a shipwreck on an island. Without access to external resources, students find themselves disoriented and need to find a solution to get around and locate resources. Students will be organized into groups and encouraged to apply the principles of magnetism to design and build their own compasses using materials that will be made available in class, such as: needle, bottle cap, magnet. This active approach promotes not only understanding of magnetism concepts, but also the development of skills such as teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking. The need to survive on the mysterious island encourages students to actively engage in learning, applying knowledge in a practical and meaningful way. At the end of the activity, the groups present their compasses, sharing the construction process, the challenges faced and the results obtained. Although this work is still in progress, it is believed that the use of Problem-Based Learning, combined with the context of the fictional history of the island, offers an engaging and meaningful approach to teaching Physics. It is recommended the adoption of this methodology in other teaching contexts, aiming to arouse the students' interest and promote the practical application of the acquired knowledge. The practice will be applied to the PIBID`s cl 3rd grade high school class year of high school, supervised by the teacher who teaches the curricular component of physics at the school.
