Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8954The identification of students' conceptions, especially with newly enrolled students in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, is of paramount importance for the teacher to find an adequate method of teaching, aiming the understanding of concepts in areas that are not observable, such as Cellular biology. Furthermore, it may serve as a reference for future studies, both for high school teachers and for higher education, in an attempt to contribute to the science education, as well as to investigate some aspects related to the pedagogical resources accessible to students during high school. In order to evaluate the already existing knowledge in the area of Cell Biology of students of a Federal Public University located in the municipality of Breves - Pará. It was proposed that the students answered two questionnaires, with open and closed questions about their knowledge in cellular biology, applied before and after classes have been administered on the subject. The results showed in the first stage of the work that there is a great limitation of the students to define complex terms of cellular biology, however a good part of the students understand the cell as a morphological unit of the living organisms, and of simple forms correct concepts on cells were presented. In relation to the pedagogical means used in high school, it shows that a great part of the students never had obtained direct contact with microscope, by analogy the textbook showed to be the main pedagogical tool used, and practical classes were pointed out in a minimal percentage. In this sense, it was understood that the students who composed this study, for the most part, do not have solid knowledge in the field of Cellular biology, and that when arriving in higher education, as the University, they must be leveled to continue in the courses related to Natural Sciences.
