Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8736This paper investigates the performance of three generative artificial intelligence models - ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek - in cataloging e-books in the MARC 21 format, based on Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules. This is a basic, exploratory study with a qualitative approach and a comparative method, which analyzed the bibliographic records produced by each artificial intelligence based on criteria of descriptive accuracy, normative compliance and consistency in the structuring of MARC fields. The results showed that, although they were able to generate partially adequate records, the models had recurring flaws, including incorrect use of fields, normative inconsistency and response variability. Among the systems evaluated, ChatGPT showed greater adherence to Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and suitability for MARC 21 fields; Gemini showed difficulties in the logical organization of the description; and DeepSeek proved to be inconsistent when switching between Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and Resources Descriptioin and Acess. It can be concluded that generative artificial intelligence has the potential to act as cataloguing support tools, generating draft bibliographic records, but they do not yet replace the specialized work of the librarian.
