Therefore, it is generally sought to discuss the contribution of the EJA as a mechanism for social emancipation, for young people and adults of Curralinho, students of this type of education, especially those who study at the "Manoel Duarte" school. Specifically, it intends to: verify whether the Brazilian State throughout history has treated the EJA as a compensatory right or action; to understand the development of this modality of education in Curralinho and also to reflect on the importance of EJA to the life in society of young people and adults in Marajó. Finally, we sought to know, through oral narratives, the perceptions of teachers and students about the EJA in the school "Manoel Duarte", listing the meanings and meanings attributed by these agents to this modality in Curralinho. In order to reach the proposed objectives, we adopted the following methodological procedures: bibliographic research in books and articles whose EJA is the main reference; documentary research having as main document the curricular proposal of the municipality. The data were also collected through a semistructured interview with three students, three teachers and one pedagogical coordinator, which are part of the EJA universe in the school, the locus of the research. The reading and interpretation of the empirical data in the light of the content analysis made it possible to verify that the EJA in Curralinho in part assists young and junior adults in the effective entry into society, as citizens of rights, who reflect on their actions, aware of the duties and, mainly, of the rights they have. However, the lack of commitment on the part of the municipal government to materialize the EJA as a right implies in a negative way in the development of many of these students, and, above all, in the educational development of the municipality. In what corresponds to the organization of the EJA, in the locus school of the research, we find that there is no specific planning. In fact, this modality appears as an appendix in the school. We understand that the EJA, in Curralinho and the local school, lacks an integrated and articulated work between municipal management and school management, pedagogical coordination and teachers. We conclude that the EJA, although the problems faced, have caused changes in the lives of the students. Teachers have demonstrated that through their efforts and knowledge they help students envision and strive for a future different from the reality they experience.
