Several studies suggest an incidence of 2.5 cases/100.000 persons per year, and therefore considered a rare disease. The median age at diagnosis is 60 years old, but 20% of patients are younger than 40 years. It is reported two cases of patients with Essential Thrombocythemia that in the moment of the diagnosis had less than thirty years old. The patients were diagnosed and received treatment in the clinic of hematology of the HEMOPA. This study showed that despite of the Essential Thrombocythemia be a benign chronic myeloproliferative syndrome, have life-threatening complications such as thrombosis, haemorrhage and evolution to myeloid metaplasia or acute leukemia, it is necessary to specialized medical supervision of patients diagnosed.
