Data from the Paraense Educational Assessment System (2023) indicate that about 60% of 5th grade students perform at basic or below-basic levels in Portuguese Language, revealing persistent difficulties rooted in early schooling. In this context, the Psychogenesis of Written Language (Ferreiro & Teberosky, 1986) and the perspective of integrating literacy and literacy practices (Soares, 2020) provide theoretical support for understanding how students appropriate the alphabetic system and the social uses of writing. Textual genres, understood as discursive practices (Marcuschi, 2010), emerge as pedagogical tools that connect students to real communicative situations. This study, conducted in a public school in Capanema-PA, analyzes the presence and use of textual genres in literacy practices in the 1st grade of elementary school. The research adopts a qualitative, action-research approach, using participant observation and field notes as instruments. Findings reveal that classroom practices remain centered on decoding, contrasting with BNCC guidelines, which emphasize the text as the central unit of teaching.
