Individuals in this age group still face the stigma of being considered fragile and asexual. However, advancements in medicine and technology have enabled animprovement in the quality of life, including the sexual life of elderly individuals. Nevertheless, the reintroduction of sexual activity into the daily lives of this population has not been accompanied by sufficient education on sexually transmitted infections and adequate support within the healthcare system. As a result, an increasing number of elderly individuals are being diagnosed with syphilis in Brazil. Objective: To analyze cases of acquired syphilis among the elderly population reported in the Xingu Region from 2018 to 2023. METHOD: This study is of a descriptive and epidemiological nature, involving the collection of secondary data related to cases of acquired syphilis in elderly residents of municipalities in the Xingu Region from 2018 to 2023. A comparative analysis will be conducted with current scientific literature, considering the incidence of syphilis in the elderly in the country in recent years. RESULTS/DISCUSSION: In the Xingu region, the increase in reported cases of acquired syphilis is approximately ninefold between 2018 and 2023. The region maintained notification rates above 12%, while in the state of Pará, the rates remained below 10%, with little variation over the analyzed years. The highest incidence rate is observed in the male population with low education levels. Although syphilis has been a notifiable disease since 2010, it is not commonly associated with the elderly population, leading to underreporting. Furthermore, public policies do not effectively address sexuality in this age group, contributing to misinformation and a lack of effective prevention.CONCLUSION: The Xingu region is vulnerable and has high infection rates among the elderly, surpassing those of the state itself. There is a need to establish preventive measures and disseminate information about the disease through better training of healthcare professionals and the inclusion of the topic in routine medical consultations, as well as to understand and address the sexuality of the elderly population.
