Since the genus belongs to a group with native representatives in the Brazilian territory, there is the occurrence of insect pest populations that limit the cultivation of eucalyptus, with negative effects on the development and survival of the plants. The occurrence of herbivorous insect species has an intrinsic relationship with environmental conditions that determine the population fluctuations of these groups. In our study, we observed that precipitation is an important driver of the occurrence of herbivorous insect morphospecies in eucalypt stands in the eastern region of Minas Gerais. Organisms such as Coleoptera Costalimaita, Heilipodus, Lampetis and Psiloptera were more abundant in wetter periods. Furthermore, the different orders of insects presented peaks of increase of occurrence in different periods of the year, demonstrating differences in the seasonality of the species studied. The results indicate that fluctuations in the abundance of herbivorous insect species have a strong environmental signal, with climate being an important driver. This conclusion is supported by the fact that the genus Eucalyptus is an introduced species in Brazil, with few defenses to prevent herbivory by native organisms, as we saw in our study. Understanding the occurrence of pest species in agroforestry systems such as eucalyptus is important because it allows the implementation of more effective and safer management, such as integrated pest management.
