Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10074This study set out to analyze whether and how the process of indexing legal documents in the Civil, Labor, and Administrative Attorney’s Office Archive (PCTA-1) can contribute to improving indexing and information retrieval practices within the institutional context of the Pará State Attorney General’s Office (PGE-PA). To this end, it seeks to describe the indexing process adopted at the PCTA-1 Archive, list the main descriptors used in the indexing process, and identify the main challenges faced. This research is characterized as applied, with a qualitative approach, conducted through bibliographic research, field documentation, and an experience report. The methods employed include participant observation, document analysis, and the Information Retrieval System (SRI). The study allowed for the observation of aspects related to the organization, representation, and retrieval of legal documentation, as well as the types of documents present in the Archive. Among the main access points identified are the case number and the names of the parties, in addition to supplementary information related to the documentation. The results highlighted challenges associated with variations in data recording formats, the lack of standardized terminology, and inconsistencies identified in the SRI, which can hinder information retrieval. In this context, the adoption of standardization criteria for descriptors and the review of recorded information can contribute to improving indexing and to information retrieval that is better suited to institutional needs.
