Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9529The present study analyzes the implementation of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) in the municipality of Magalhães Barata (PA) and its socio-environmental impacts between 2000 and 2025. The general objective is to investigate how the inadequate disposal of waste in open-air dumps affects the quality of the groundwater and local public health. Methodologically, the research is characterized as a case study with a mixed approach, combining a qualitative survey of social perception, through 50 semi-structured interviews, and a quantitative physical-chemical analysis of three water samples collected at strategic points (Stream, Residential Well, and Public Supply - School). The results revealed Total Iron concentrations of up to 1.28 mg/L and Turbidity of 93.4 uT, values that drastically exceed the potability limits of Ordinance GM/MS No. 888/2021. Such data converge with the report of 66% of respondents regarding the metallic taste of the water and 30% regarding the incidence of dermal pathologies associated with the detected acidic pH (5.34). It is concluded that the absence of an adequate final disposal system establishes a direct causal link with regional water degradation.
