To this end, the narrative method of Labov and Waletzky (1967) was used to analyze civil marriage records belonging to the Amazon Memory Center (CMA) at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). This is a qualitative and exploratory study, which employed bibliographic review and documentary research as data collection methods. Data organization and analysis were conducted using paleography and concepts from the adapted narrative method, based on modifications to the model originally applied to the analysis of oral narratives.
