Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/2983The aim of this paper is to present an experience report about the teaching-learning process of mechanical energy conservation for students of the 5th grade of elementary school at Rosalina Alvarez Cruz State School. It was designed with principles of playfulness and science teaching by research. The students, mediated by the teacher (Raimundo Wilson) made an investigative and playful sequence about the making and operation of the toy “somersault champion”. It focuses on students' understanding of height in relation to studying gravitational potential energy and speed in studying kinetic energy, with only varying platform height for students to better understand the concept of energy conservation. The contact with the toy, the argument made by the mediator teacher, the process of construction of the toy and then make the necessary tests for the proper functioning of the instrument.
