Disponível em: http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/2043.Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/2043The Silurian and Devonian sedimentary record in the southern border of Amazonas basin was marked by glacial events and erosional intervals that reach millions of years, like that developed between the Pitinga (Trombetas Group) and Maecuru (Urupadi Group) formations. The facies and stratigraphic analysis of this deposits carried out in the Itaituba region, state of Pará, allowed recognize 11 lithofacies grouped in two facies associations (FA): 1) offshore transition to tidal-influenced shoreface (Pitinga Formation) and 2) braided fluvial plain (Maecuru Formation). The FA1 consists in black shales with siderite and quartz nodules and abundant chitinozoans and acritarchs. Occurs also well sorted and rounded fine to medium-grained sandstones with tangential /tabular cross bedding, herringbone pattern, reactivation surfaces, mud drape/mud couplets defining tidal bundles successions, massive mudstone, rhythmites with flaser, wavy and linsen bedding, symmetric and assymmetric ripples and Arthrophycus icnites. The AF2 are compound by moderately to poorly sorted medium to coarse grained sandstones and conglomerates with subangular to subrounded grains. The main structures are tangential/tabular, recumbent and sigmoidal /compound cross bedding with unidirectional paleocurrents towards NW. The facies are organized in small-scale fining upward cycles, with basal lags and decrease of thickness upsection.
