Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/6410Introduction: Terry Cook (1947 -2014) was an American historian with experience in Archives and specialized in document evaluation for working in the Public Archives in Canada, in which he contributed to document management and also for progressive thoughts, thus, he disagreed with the classical theories of Jenkinson (1882-1961) - positivist archivist, in which his theories that the archive should be used only for academic purposes, that is, only for research - Cook (1947 -2014), then, having as influence the philosopher Jean-François Lyotard (1924-1998) for his book Postmodern Condition (1988), brought the post-modernist ideas that start from the principle of context, in which the document is produced, is present for governmental decision making respecting the principle of provenance - in which organizes the documentation preserving its original form - in this way it is evident that one must analyze and question the changes that occurs both the institution and the documentation that is produced, because it is necessary to understand the context where the document is inserted, after all, the archives are reflections of humanity's development. Thus, he died in 2014, however, his research is related to the changes of thought that influence the archival community today. Objective: to identify the term postmodernism in the theoretical works of Terry Cook (1947 -2014) Methodology: A qualitative approach was used based on a bibliographic and exploratory review whose purpose was to identify the term postmodernism in the theoretical works of Terry Cook (1947 -2014): Fifty articles by Terry Cook (1947 -2014) were found in the databases available through the periodical Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and the journal archivaria, and of the articles identified only ten were related to the term postmodernism. Conclusion: Terry Cook (1947 -2014) is theoretically relevant to the field of archivology, as he influences professional archivists to be critical and question their work environment. Thus, the term postmodernism is related to the loss of values and belief in the social sphere at the end of the "absolute truth."
