The research is characterized as descriptive, and was performed through a bibliographical and documentary survey, in addition to field research. The conduct of the information centers was evaluated in relation to the preservation of documentary collections and access to information in favor of the construction of collective memory, highlighting the role of the information professional in this process. The paper introduces some considerations about the studied subject, presents a small history of the city of Barcarena, and describes its main bibliographical and documentary collections.
