Besides the huge abundance, they are also quite diverse. The didactic collections have great potential for teaching science, and can be used for various purposes in its study. The purpose of this work was to use entomological collections as didactic material in science classes and to evaluate the effectiveness of such an approach in the construction of the knowledge of the students involved. This research was carried out at the Municipal School of Primary Education Bom Jesus, in two classes of the 8th year of elementary school. The students attended an expository class with the help of the Power Point program and visited the insects through entomological collections organized in themes. In the pre-test it was possible to verify that the students could not distinguish between the various classes of the phylum Arthropoda, since they constantly included the spiders and scorpions and other animals in the class of the insects. They did not know the main structures that make up the body of the constituents of the class Insecta and did not know the real importance of the insects for the environment. Through the results obtained in the post-test it was observed that the students learned new concepts, they began to recognize the importance of the insects to the environment and society, and also demonstrated a positive view regarding the group. The results showed that it is possible for the teacher to elaborate a differentiated class with their students, using attractive didactic material of low cost and that allows an effective learning.
