Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10243Facial asymmetry represents a significant clinical challenge in orthodontic practice, especially when associated with structural alterations of the mandibular condyle. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between mandibular condyle dimensions and anterior facial asymmetry using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). Sixty CT scans of adults of both sexes (30 men and 30 women) were analyzed, linearly measuring the mediolateral (ML) and anteroposterior (AP) dimensions of the right and left condyles, as well as the condyle-mental distance (CMT). Facial asymmetry was considered present when the discrepancy between the sides in the CMT measurement exceeded 4 mm. Statistical analyses included Pearson's correlation tests and simple linear regression. The results revealed bilateral morphometric symmetry in condylar dimensions, although the left condyle tended to have greater mediolateral thickness. A negative association was identified between the left A-P dimension and mandibular asymmetry, suggesting a possible compensatory effect. There was a significant difference in left condylar width between the sexes, greater in men, indicating slight sexual dimorphism. Nevertheless, linear dimensions alone proved insufficient to explain the magnitude of the observed asymmetry, reinforcing its multifactorial nature. It is concluded that, although linear measurements of the condyle provide important morphological insights, a three-dimensional and integrated assessment is essential for diagnosis and treatment planning in cases of facial asymmetry.
