Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9299The efficient operation of the road transport system is directly related to the state of conservation of the highways. However, the lack of adequate management and planning negatively affects this dynamic. In this regard, the objective of this study is to determine the Surface Condition Index (SCI) of the PA-150 highway, surrounding the municipality of Goianésia do Pará, as a fundamental step for proposing a Pavement Management System (PMS). To this end, data collection was conducted in October 2025 and January 2026 across two sections, each comprising twenty 1-km segments, through the application of the Continuous Visual Survey method, governed by the DNIT 008/2003-PRO standard, in addition to traffic volume counts to determine the highway’s N number. The main results obtained were: Section 1 showed an SCI reduction from a "Good" to a "Fair" rating between October 2025 and January 2026, while Section 2 remained stable as "Good"; the traffic was classified as heavy, with an N number in the 108 range; the most frequent defects were interconnected cracks (alligator cracking), surface wear, and wheel path rutting; the SCI variation during the collection months indicated that 37.5% of the segments showed an increase in SCI, 35% remained stable, and 27.5% showed a reduction in the index; a strong negative linear correlation was found between the Flexible Pavement Condition Index (FPCI) and the Expedite Global Severity Index (EGSI), with a Pearson coefficient of -0.82, revealing consistency between subjective (FPCI) and objective (EGSI) evaluations. It was concluded, therefore, that the SCI is an essential tool for planning and decision making within pavement management, ensuring efficient maintenance, resource optimization, and the conservation of the pavement's level of service.
