Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9353In the final decades of the nineteenth century, the capital of Pará, Belém, was already experiencing intense commercial relations with foreign countries, intensified by the rubber boom. This process expanded the market for imported products, which influenced and became part of a Social and Food History. This article aims to understand the diet and habits of a society that viewed imported goods as a synonym for power and wealth, observing how these foods became luxury items and a marker of class division through the composition of each social group’s table. The research is conducted by mapping the imported foods listed in periodicals of the time, such as “Diário de Belém: Folha Política, Noticiosa e Commercial (PA)”, “Diário de Notícias (PA)”, and “Folha do Norte (PA)”, in order to identify which foodstuffs arrived most frequently in the capital and which countries and cities were their main senders. It seeks to understand the relationship established between the city’s supply system and society during a period when Belém was undergoing civilizing changes. The analysis engages in dialogue with Pierre Bourdieu and other scholars in the field, considering eating habits as social practices that express symbolic values and reinforce hierarchies within the social space. Thus, it examines how imported products were incorporated into the new dietary customs of the capital, reflecting social dynamics and a sense of social belonging.Acesso AbertoAlimentaçãoBelémProdutosImportadosSéculo XIXFoodProductsImportedNineteenth CenturyCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::HISTORIA::HISTORIA DO BRASIL::HISTORIA REGIONAL DO BRASILOs produtos importados em Belém: comer como status social (1880-1900)Trabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
