With a focus on fostering critical readers of their own realities, this work reflects on literary reading practices through the lens of Discourse Analysis, aiming at a materialist examination of relations of power and domination, articulated with students’ everyday realities and traversed by markers such as gender, race, and class. In this sense, the research follows qualitative and interpretive theoretical-methodological orientations, grounded in bibliographic review and discursive analysis of selected excerpts from the work, articulating aspects of the critical and enunciative layers of the fable genre. The choice of this theme proves fundamental in light of the precarious conditions of teaching and learning literary texts in public schools. The proposed pedagogical approach, based on this work, enables the development of a critical and political formation through engaged reading, in the face of the allegories of the book, which figuratively represent everyday realities and situations within the school space-time.
