Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8978: Academic literacy involves mastery of oral and written textual genres, an essential condition for success in college. However, many students enter higher education with limitations regarding these genres, especially in oral practices such as the seminar. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the difficulties faced by students in the language course at the Universidade Federal do Pará, Bragança campus, Pará, Brazil, regarding seminar practices and their approach in the course. The specific objectives were to identify the main difficulties students face in preparing and presenting seminars, to identify possible factors that cause these difficulties and their relationship with the approach to the genre in the course, and to analyze the impact of these limitations on their academic development. The research adopted a qualitative approach, based on Prodanov and Freitas (2013), and used a semi-structured interview as a methodological tool, based on Bauer and Gaskell (2002). Data collection was conducted in March 2025 with six students from different classes of the language course. The analysis was based on students' accounts of their experiences with the seminar genre at university. They highlighted difficulties related to the guidance received, the organization of the oral presentation, and other factors, confirming the need for greater attention to the teaching of oral communication in higher education, as advocated by Castro and Oliveira (2024). The results indicate that the seminar genre approach, when limited, compromises students' academic development, highlighting the importance of pedagogical strategies that include oral communication as a constitutive part of university education.Acesso AbertoLetramento AcadêmicoGênero SeminárioOralidadeAcademic literacySeminar genreOral communicationCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTESAbordagem do gênero seminário no ensino superior: percepções de estudantes de Letras PortuguêsTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
