The research aimed to understand how the subject has been approached in the classroom, considering its historical and social relevance. The work was carried out through exploratory qualitative field research with participant observation and semi-structured interviews, conducted at the Raimunda da Silva Barros Municipal Elementary School, located in the municipality of Cametá-Pa. The school manager and a teacher from the 4th grade class took part. The results show the importance of the teacher acting as a mediator of this knowledge and the role of management in this respect. It also highlights the importance of education at certain stages of the subject's life and how transformative it can be in such a diverse country. Finally, a concise analysis was made, highlighting that, although the theme of black identity can open doors to a new look in the formation of more critical subjects, there is still a way to go to achieve this goal.
