This study aims to analyze the village of Baião in the final years of the reign of King José I, considering its effects on the social, economic, and cultural organization of the village and how these measures reflected the Portuguese Crown's strategies of colonization and territorial control. The Indian Freedom Law aimed to end indigenous slavery in the Amazon Valley, promote their integration into colonial society, and end the conflict over this labor force between religious orders and colonists. The Directory consisted of a series of administrative directives designed to integrate indigenous people into colonial society, promote their civilization, and ensure their economic usefulness.Acesso AbertoBaiãoD.
