In this context, the expansion of urban territory in a disorderly and unplanned way has impacts, affecting natural resources, such as water courses. This work discusses the occupation problems in the Uriboca river sub-basin, in the municipality of Marituba, state of Pará, through map making, area delimitation and multi temporal analysis. The main ethodological procedures adopted were: bibliographic review and analysis of the problems caused by disorderly urban expansion through geographic and georeferenced data in a geographic information system. The results show that the Uriboca river sub-basin has an elliptical shape and that its disorderly occupation has indirectly contributed to flooding and inundation problems in the region. The reduction of green areas and poor urban drainage infrastructure cause complications for nearby populations, in addition to causing traffic disorders. Finally, there is a need to map the risk areas in the aforementioned basin, with the objective of better planning the urbanized land supply and stimulating land occupation planning in the municipality of Marituba, with a view to conserving the waterways, vegetation and life.
