Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7781The search for natural reinforcements as sustainable alternatives to synthetic reinforcements is of utmost importance for the production of more environmentally responsible composite materials. In view of this, the Amazon has become a focus of studies due to its unexplored plant diversity. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the volumetric incorporation (5, 15, 25, 35, and 45%) of envira preta fibers (Bocageopsis multiflora), a plant scarcely explored in the Amazon region, into an epoxy polymer matrix to investigate its mechanical properties and physical, chemical, thermal, and morphological characteristics. Regarding physical characteristics, the envira fiber exhibited a specific mass of 0.25 g/cm³, a circular cross-section, an inverse relationship between density and diameter, a rough texture, and a longitudinal surface. FTIR analysis identified functional groups characteristic of lignocellulosic fibers, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, while TG/DTG analysis indicated that the envira fiber loses approximately 69% of its mass before completely degrading at 365.50°C. Regarding mechanical properties, in addition to increasing the material’s stiffness, the addition of envira fibers significantly improved tensile and flexural strength, especially at the 45% volumetric fraction, where it achieved results of 78 MPa and 95 MPa, respectively, confirmed by statistical analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s Test. Therefore, the results obtained in this study highlight the great potential of envira preta fibers as reinforcement in epoxy polymer matrix composites. These fibers not only exhibit physical, mechanical, and chemical characteristics suitable for structural applications but also stand out for their renewable nature, their abundance in the Amazon region, and their potential to significantly reduce dependence on synthetic reinforcements while aligning with sustainability guidelines.
