Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10188This article aims to highlight how sailors from Bragança (PA) understand Saint Benedict in the current context, according to the stories and meanings associated with the saint. It seeks to understand how Saint Benedict is represented in the daily lives of these devotees. The research is anchored in studies on memory, narratives, and popular religiosity. Using a qualitative approach, it was developed through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, in addition to reading recent academic literature. The accounts of the interviewees illustrate different perceptions of the saint, associated with healing, hope, and, in some cases, the power to punish those who disrespect him and break promises.
