Globally, cancer has been the cause of 1 in 6 deaths worldwide. In the future, there will be 17 million cancer deaths and 75 million live cancer annually by 2030. Objective: To analyze sociodemographic and clinical variables involved in gastrointestinal carcinogenesis in patients attended at a university hospital in Belém, PA. Methodology: this is a crosssectional and descriptive study, being part of a larger project in which the relationship between nutritional status and clinicalbiochemical markers and quality of life in individuals with gastrointestinal neoplasia attended at the University Hospital João de Barros Barreto (HUJBB) from December 2013 to July 2014. The data were collected through a questionnaire, containing the parameters: usual weight, current weight, height, BMI, biochemical exams of albumin and hemoglobin. For the tabulation of the d ata the program Microsof Excel (2010) was used, for the description of the variables by means of means and standard deviation, the program Biostat version 5.0 was used. Regarding the ethical aspects, the present study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University Hospital João de Barros Barreto. Results: 63% (n = 28), with a mean age of 61.2 years, and the highest prevalence of incomplete elementary school were found in 51% (n = 22). (n = 27) and light albumin depletion in 47.73% (n = 21) and normal in only 6, 82% (n = 3). About 63.65% (n = 28) of the patients did not smoke and 77.29% (n = 34) did not consume alcoholic beverages. Conclusion: The sociodemographic and clinical profile of the patients evaluated was: the elderly, the majority of them male, with a low education, nutritional risk classification, as evidenced by the percentage of weight loss (% PP) and albumin depletion in the exams, increased muscle protein degradation. Finally, the correlation analysis between BMI and albumin and BMI and hemoglobin showed that nutritional status is a critical factor for cancer patients.
