Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10077This study analyzed, through specialized literature, how public libraries acted in preserving memory during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), identifying historiographical gaps related to the Northern Region of Brazil. The research, of a qualitative and exploratory nature, was developed through an Integrative Literature Review (ILR), using databases such as BRAPCI, Google Scholar, and the CAPES Periodicals Portal, from January to June 2026. The results show that public libraries, despite being subjected to these mechanisms, exerted a great impact on society and were symbols of resistance to institutional control and censorship. It was identified that the librarian, as a mediator of information, faced ethical dilemmas between state imposition and the deontological commitment to free access to knowledge.
