Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9145This article analyzes eight illustrations from the children's book Alice no País da Mentira, by Pedro Bandeira (2016), based on the semiotics of Peirce (1995) and authors such as Barthes (1964), Joly (1994), Greimas and Courtés (1979), among others, based on a bibliographic research, with the objectives of verifying the connection of meaning between illustration and word, understanding how semiotic resources contribute to the construction of the narrative, as well as to analyze how these elements of semiotics attribute meaning to the plot. The results of the research show that the illustrations have their own meaning, independent of the written text, which demonstrates their relevance in basic education, highlighting the need to promote visual literacy to complement the formation of young critical readers. The study seeks to collaborate with educators and the community in general interested in valuing the visual aspect in the interpretation of illustrated children's narratives.
