Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9046The identification of the students' spontaneous conceptions is important, since it is the basis for the teacher to seek the best didactic strategy aiming at meaningful learning, especially in the areas in which unobservable concepts are taught, such as microbiology. Based on this, we sought to identify the spontaneous conceptions about fungi of the 7th grade students of elementary school II in two schools in the municipality of Breves, in the north of Pará. Through two questionnaires, in which the students answered an open question And elaborated a drawing, thus relating their previous knowledge with scientific knowledge allowing us to evaluate the degree of meaningful learning that these students obtained. The results revealed that large parts of the students in both public and private schools had little knowledge about fungi, but after the theoretical class there was an improvement in the index of correct answers in relation to the first questionnaire. It was verified that the daily life exerts a significant influence on the conceptions of the subjects of the research, being that the students who had not yet studied the content demonstrated to have non-scientific knowledge on the subject approached.
