Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8690This qualitative study analyzes the experiences of Black students at the Federal University of Pará, aiming to understand the relationship between everyday racism and academic performance. The research is grounded in the works of Silvio Almeida, Lélia Gonzalez, Carlos Hasenbalg, Zélia Amador de Deus, and Pierre Bourdieu. Data were collected through focus groups and semi-structured interviews, selected using the snowball sampling technique, and analyzed through Laurence Bardin’s content analysis. The investigation focused on three main categories: “Conditions of access, permanence, and academic support,” “Structural racism and experiences of discrimination,” and “Barriers to academic achievement.” The results show that Black students face multiple challenges in their university trajectories, while also developing mechanisms of resistance and transformation, sustained by a strengthened sense of racial belonging and the historical struggles of Black communities. Furthermore, manifestations of both implicit and explicit racism persist due to the lack of institutional accountability for discriminatory practices and the trivialization and denial of racial inequalities in social interactions.
