Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of an eco-barrier model in retaining floating solid waste in a river in the eastern Amazon, influenced by tidal hydrodynamics. For this, eco-barriers were installed at two points in the river (P1 and P2), with collections carried out over a period of 24 weeks in P1 and over 9 months in P2.as eco-barriers were installed at two points in the river (P1 and P2), with collections carried out over a period of 24 weeks in P1 and over 9 months in P2. Results showed an average efficiency of 73.1%, with the eco-barriers most effective in capturing plastics and polystyrene. A total of 649 items were collected in P1 and 940 in P2, emphasizing the large volume of improperly disposed waste. The analysis also revealed that pollution increased during rainy periods and high tides, particularly near the river’s source, highlighting the climate’s influence on waste dispersion. In conclusion, eco-barriers showed great potential as cost-effective, sustainable tools for reducing river pollution, especially plastics and polystyrene, which are major pollutants. Despite their low cost and versatility, challenges remain in maintaining, adapting to extreme hydrodynamics, and customizing models to local conditions. However, eco-barriers remain a valuable solution for mitigating river pollution, underscoring the need for public policies to manage waste and reduce plastic consumption.
