Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1391INTRODUCTION: Patient identification is considered an important strategy for their safety during hospitalization. The proper use of this strategy will contribute to avoid greater damages during your stay in the hospital, such as the exchange of medications between patients, blood products, laboratory tests, notes and other procedures. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety of the elderly hospitalized regarding the identification strategy. METHOD: It is characterized as a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. This is a snippet from project "Segurança do Idoso Hospitalizado quanto ao Risco de Quedas" submitted by GESIAMA Research Group (UEPA / CNPq) approved by CNPq / Universal edict of 2014. The data collected were originally stored in spreadsheets and statistical calculations performed using statistical software SPSS version (20.0). These data were then treated statistically by parametric and non-parametric tests, such as simple frequency distribution, dispersion measures (mean, median and standard deviation). Considering the p value ≤10%. RESULTS: A total of 75 elderly people of both sexes and ages between 60 and 90 years of age participated of the study, the mean age being 71.3 years, the majority of the elderly were between 60 and 70 years old, were of the sex male, from Belém, there was a predominance of those who received up to a minimum wage and low level of schooling. The majority of hospitalizations were males totaling 58, 7%. It is noteworthy that the majority of the elderly in the sample had as a cause of hospitalization diseases of the cardiovascular system corresponding to 38.7%. Among comorbidities, hypertension and diabetes were the most prevalent and 57.3% of the elderly were long-term smokers. It was identified that no elderly of the study wore identification bracelet, just as, there were elderly with similar names in the same ward about 22.7%. CONCLUSION: According to the results found in this study, regarding the non-use of the identification strategy for patient safety, it further exposes the elderly to the risks of adverse events during hospitalization. Thus, it is suggested that it would be prudent for health institutions to follow safe and standardized means of identification, as recommended by ANVISA, through the National Patient Safety Policy, and that all health personnel include in their protocols data from Identification before performing any procedure.Acesso AbertoSegurança do pacienteIdosoPacientes hospitalizadosCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEMA identificação como importante estratégia para a segurança do paciente idoso hospitalizadoTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
