Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/4627Toxoplasmosis encephalitis is a opportunist infection most commonly seen in Adquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients, tipically observed in later stages of Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) infection and occurring more frequently in patients with low CD4 cell counts. This work has as objective to describe the epidemiological clinical and diagnostic aspects of toxoplasmosis encephalitis in a AIDS patients interned in the University Hospital João of Barros Barreto in the city of Belém during the period of november 2004 and november 2005. For the attainment of the necessary information research protocol was used standard, which was filled from information collected in handbooks of the participans, that the Medical Archives Division and Statistics of the University Hospital João of Barros Barreto. All the information had been inserted in program EPI INFO version 6.04b for analysis statistics. In analysed period, had interned in the hospital 72 patients with Toxoplasmosis encephalitis diagnosis, however 64 handbooks had only been found constituting the population of research of this work. It was verified that most of the patient ones was originating from Belém (82%) and of the masculine sex (76.6%). The frequence of cases in the age bands was similar that understand and age of 30 a 39 years with 28.1% (18/64) .The illness was more frequent in the medium brown (68.8%) and single individuals(71.9%). The low degree of school between the patients was demonstraded in the study represented 40.6% (26/64).The more frequent sistemics manifestations had been motor defection (29.6%), headache (22.6%), disorders of consciousness (9%). Predominant observed is sexual infectious way (36%) and disease period (AIDS) had been 1 a 4 years. The neuroradiological findings on TC presents prevailing multiple lesions (20,7%), hipoisontense images (68.8%), tends to be associated with mass effect in (22.7%). Basal ganglia is principal localization (24%). The neurologics symptoms observed was seizures (58%), torpor (22%), mental confusion (11%). Predominant period was 10 a 19days (29.7%).
