This was an analytical, cross-sectional population-based study, using a sample of 278 people over the age of 10, self-declared quilombolas and living in the community for at least 10 years. Data collection involved structured interviews and clinical dental examinations. Data was analyzed using specific software, including descriptive analysis and investigation of the relationship between access to dental services and sociodemographic variables, using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that 84.5% of quilombolas had already had a dental appointment, mostly in the public service (68.9%). However, 51.1% reported that their last appointment was more than a year ago. Pain or tooth extraction were the main reasons for seeking dental care (70.2%). In terms of oral health, 34.2% had fewer than 15 teeth and 57.9% had more than 15 teeth. Caries was the most prevalent oral health problem (75.9%), followed by edentulism (8%) and periodontal disease (2.2%). Impacts on daily life included altered emotional state (22.3%), interference with socialization (17.6%), and impacts on studies or work (9.0%). The analysis revealed a significant association between access to dental services and variables such as age group, marital status and schooling, highlighting the urgent need for public policies to improve access to oral health services in these communities.
