Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/4122Marajoara Fight (MF) as a traditional body practice of Marajó Island, Pará, is currently emerging as a sport linked to local culture, customs and tradition. Faced with a scenario that seeks its institutionalization as a sport of combat, MF has been slowly discussed about its insertion as a content of the physical education discipline. The study is configured as exploratory and aims to verify from the discursive repertoire of athletes of the MF, which are the main elements that permeate the MF today. The sample consisted of three male volunteer participants, aged 32, 33 and 53 years, with more than 15 years of ML practice, who were interviewed. The study revealed that the current scenario of the sport presents a wide growth of its diffusion. According to the data collected, it was possible to identify that the main demands of the MF from the athletes answers are related to two important themes for them, and that they were constituted as two categories: sportivization and schooling. From these categories three subcategories were identified: rules, techniques and teacher education. Regarding the sporting category, the premise that MF needs to organize and disseminate its rules in the face of the need for competitive standardization and at the same time to discuss broadly the main blows of its technical collection, is consolidated as the theme of greater tension among athletes. Regarding the schooling category, it was observed that the subcategory related to the issue of teacher education is a point of concern for future solutions.
