Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8564The accelerated increase in municipal solid waste (MSW) generation represents one of the most critical and urgent challenges for urban sustainability, directly pressuring public management systems and demanding integrated, effective, and environmentally responsible solutions. Selective collection is essential in this context to reduce the volume of recyclable waste sent to landfills, with Voluntary Drop-Off Points (PEVs) serving as strategic instruments to facilitate proper segregation and disposal by the population. This study aims to propose a methodology for defining suitable locations for PEV installation in the neighborhoods of Reduto, Telégrafo, and Umarizal, in Belém – PA. Geoprocessing tools, such as ArcGIS and Google Earth, were used to create coverage circles with radii of 300, 400, and 500 meters, allowing for the analysis of spatial efficiency in each scenario. The study was based on official data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), the Brazilian Association of Public Cleaning and Special Waste Companies (ABRELPE), specific Brazilian legislation on MSW, information from the Municipal Government of Belém, as well as field surveys conducted by the author. The results indicated that a 400-meter radius provided the best balance between territorial coverage and functional viability, ensuring greater reach and reducing uncovered areas (Reduto 31.68%, Telégrafo 21.57%, and Umarizal 24.21%). Based on this methodology, 10 strategic points were generated for PEV allocation, allowing for efficient coverage and improved distribution of selective collection infrastructure in the analyzed neighborhoods. The research provides valuable contributions to urban planning and the development of public policies aimed at improving MSW management in Belém. Its relevance lies in identifying the insufficient number of PEVs in central and densely populated neighborhoods, reinforcing the need to expand and redistribute these structures, thereby contributing to the construction of a more efficient, accessible, and sustainable selective collection system for the city.
