The study aims to analyze the structural aspects of this expression and highlight its functional effects that contribute to its negative meaning. The theoretical framework is grounded in Functional Linguistics, such as Martelotta and Areas (2003), Bybee (2010), Rios de Oliveira (2020) and Ferrarezi Jr. (2008), seeking to analyze with a focusing specifically on linguistic change, metaphorical processes, and abstraction. Data collection was conducted through social media platforms—Instagram and WhatsApp—from which seven instances of the phenomenon were extracted for analysis.
