Predominantly young, these dancers provide entertainment, emotional support, and social interaction. The research, based on a qualitative methodology with participant observation and interviews with dancers, organizers, and group directors, reveals their importance to the cultural identity of Belém. In addition to facing challenges such as irregular income and lack of formal recognition, the study highlights the transition they are going through: the dancers are no longer dependent on event venues to negotiate directly with clients, increasing their autonomy, redefining their roles and earning potential.
