The objective of the study was to describe the classical aspects of the disease, namely: historical context, etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical, laboratory findings and important findings in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. With particular emphasis on the major outbreaks that have occurred in Brazil since 2000 and which have caused the extensions of yellow fever risk areas, due to the transmission of the disease in regions that did not register cases for many years, we will also describe the most recent epidemic of yellow fever occurred in the Brazilian territory, its consequences and the eventual risk of reurbanization of the disease in the country. The bibliographic research was carried out through consultations to scientific articles, official brazilian documents and documents produced by the Brazilian Society of Infectology available on the Internet, as well as printed books.
