The study area is Porto de Vila do Conde. Vila do Conde an area of shipment, landing and storing fuels that is property of ALBRAS , an aluminium brazilian company. The chemical composition of fuels has several components, which are harmful to water environment. Chemical and marine pollution studies state that their efeccts are noxious to aquatic life. So, it could be possible that there are water pollution, in the study area, whether happens an accidental fuel spill or not. According to this work, it was choosen mercury as an suitable indicator to water pollution. By using an indicator such that, urban pollution and water pollution can be inferred.
