Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8476By establishing an abode in the colonial city of Belém of Grão-Pará, Fray Caetano Brandão founded in 1787 the first masonry hospital in Pará and one of the first places of therapeutic treatment and reception that the city's donated population would have access to, at the end of the century XVIII, the Hospital Bom Jesus dos Pobres Enfermos, also known as the Hospital da Caridade de Belém of Pará, This article is part of the project HOSPITALIS project, which is about global research on Portuguese hospital architecture, between the XV and XX centuries. This research is concerned with a historical review of the Bom Jesus dos Pobres Enfermos Hospital, as a hospital building, narrating specific moments of its existence based on historiographical sources that attribute value to it as a welfare architecture and as a relevant actor in the history of Belém do Pará, linked to the political influence of the religious brotherhoods in Pará between the XVIII and XIX centuries. As a building in a typology of Portuguese, the hospital protected the synthesis characteristics of Lusitania's colonial architecture and implicit influences of the architectural party adopted by the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi, which Friar Caetano Brandão was ordained.
