Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9930This Undergraduate Thesis analyzes how images of fishing act as records of material culture based on the accounts of fishermen and fisherwomen from Vila do Castelo, in Bragança, Pará. The study seeks to understand the contribution of visual records in reconstructing the historical, spatial, and identity transformations of local fishing work. Of a qualitative nature, the research is grounded in New Cultural History, History of Education, and Intercultural Curriculum in Youth and Adult Education. The methodology included a literature review, documentary research, field observations, semi-structured interviews with eight collaborators, and photographic records of the local port and net making. Data analysis was guided by the theoretical contributions of Paulo Freire, Michel de Certeau, Roger Chartier, and Peter Burke. The results indicate that, although commercial fishing is significant in the region, work artifacts transcend their economic function, presenting symbolic, affective, and cosmological meanings tied to the territory and traditional subsistence, such as fishing itself.
