This study aims to discuss the main risks of this process for the practice of MW as a symbol of the archipelago popular culture. This is a basic qualitative study and was carried out through a bibliographic research directed to the state of the art on the subject. The main risks pointed out were based on the process of esportivization of other sports that went through a similar process.
