HHV-8 viremia is a factor strongly associated with clinical status in epidemic KS, suggesting an active role of virus replication in disease progression. Objective: Molecular detection of HHV-8 in peripheral venous blood, description of the clinical lesions found and demonstration of the demographic profile of patients diagnosed with kaposi sarcoma/ AIDS. Methods: A descriptive series of cases was performed in patients diagnosed at the HUJBB from August 1, 2014 to July 31, 2015. The detection of HHV-8 in the peripheral blood of these patients was performed using the genomic DNA extraction kit Biopur. This project was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of HUJBB, opinion number: 787.484 / 2014. Results: The sample included 18 patients, 83,3% of whom were male, with a predominance in the age group between 30 and 40 years. 77,8% of the individuals were from Belém and the metropolitan region. The most frequent occupation was salesperson (11,1%), hairdresser (11,1%) and administrative assistant (11,1%). Most of the subjects had KS lesions located in the lower limbs, and then in the thorax and oral cavity. Visceral involvement was present in 3,33% of the sample, with KS in the stomach and trachea being more prevalent. Most individuals had a CD4 + cell count below 200 cells / mm3. The log mean of the viral load found was high (4,09 log10). HHV-8 virus was found in the peripheral blood of 16 patients. Conclusion: With these results we noted a failure to detect HIV early as well as the extent of treatment coverage. Most patients with kaposi sarcoma lesions received the diagnosis of HIV less than a year ago and received late treatment culminating with the onset of comorbidities and conferring a narrower prognosis. Therefore, we suggest a review of local health strategies, aimed at the early diagnosis of HIV mainly in adolescents and young adults before the development of the aids phase. It is also necessary to increase the coverage of treatment in PLWHA so that almost all of these individuals receive it.Acesso AbertoSarcoma de Kaposi (SK)HIVHHV-8CâncerCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::MEDICINADetecção molecular do HHV-8 em sangue venoso periférico em pessoa que vive com HIV/aids com sarcoma de kaposiTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
